ELTIFITS

This is a quick little post during a break after watching USA hang on to beat Canada and in a few minutes Mexico will be playing Guadalupe. Eltifits were my holy grail of a band. It took me a long time, but a couple of years I finally found their Worthing Street EP. These tracks here though I think are from the equally rare John Peel session. This I believe is from 1980. I only have three tracks at the mo. The missing track is a cracker. I will post it and the vinyl versions and photo later. I have not seen much info on the band or whether they had any more recordings. I did on a Leigh Festival a track from Eltifits, where even the compilers didn't know the title, although one source has it as "Tony Wilson Fucker". They may have been a Manchester band as they seem to have played with Joy Division a few times. http://rapidshare.com/files/38621078/Eltifits.rar

If you like this Vinyl Tap still has a copy of the EP for only 10 pounds-a steal if you ask me.

Hi - I was a member of Elti-Fits (guitarist) - although we formed and recorded in Manchester the bassist and I were from London, the singer was from Loughborough. The drummer was a Mancunian though. we didn't have a song called "Tony Wilson F***r" but the sentiment was expressed in less robust language in the song "Their Grip" which contains the lyric "Tony Wilson sits street sucking".

I absolutely loved this band, Saw them in 1979 at Deeply Vale, was one of only 3 people who danced to their set, in fact i was one of only 3 people at the stageI remember following the band back stage to see if I could interview them for a fanzine I was running and was ignored by the singer, she was ranting and raging about the fact nobody had danced...I know I was a skinny runt back then, I may have blended in with the scaffolding posts but i was behaving like a swirling dervish to their set.
The prima-donna outbursts didn't put me off them, I still think they were superb and totally inspirational. But I never did get the interview - Bloody Brilliant band, only upstaged by the Ruts in my opinion :)
Any chance of getting some of the demos uploaded on any torrent sites?

Great blog!

Any chance of a re-up of this? I adore the track featured on the Manchester Messthetics compilation but simply can't find anything else.

Thanks!

Another year goes by, so time to add another comment (ho ho).
Who is Caroline? How the hell did you manage to dance to Eltifits - I'd pay good money to see you swirl to Reject (7/8 time). Put a video on YouTube!
Who is Anonymous? Yes I was in Life - are you Andy? Rita? Oh no, you're not Les are you? xD

Well, as we're the only two contributing to this now I'd better keep my end up and shake a 7/8 dancing leg this way. There actually was a guy who danced front-of-stage at nearly every Russell Club gig we played - well, he spasmed rather than danced, but that was pretty appropriate.
If anyone out there knows of a man named Baldwin who claims a) to come from Australia (or was it New Zealand?) and b) to have a recording of the Deeply Vale gig and c) that there are still Elti-Fans down under then tell him we think he's an imposter as all he did in his email to me was pretend to be Caroline. Or is Baldwin really Caroline being anonymous? Also ask him how the hell he got my email address. 'Til next year, Toodle-Pip!

The last comment (as perhaps will be with this comment) was listed as anonymous because this blog fucks around with things like hotmail and URLs and Google Accounts or some such bollocks and doesn't allow me to simply appear under my name which is NIGEL, for fuck's sakes.

An attention-grabbing discussion is price comment. I think that you must write extra on this matter, it may not be a taboo topic but usually people are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers gsn casino games
