If this comes to a town near you I highly recommend it. Locally at the Sarasota Film Festival they are having three nights of this. Tonight I saw the video with footage of LA bands. I had thought I would be seeing videos that I already knew, but it was all new to me. Lots of bands we love, but footage exclusive to Target Video. The most memorable was Johanna Went with her provacative stage show. Tomorrow is NY/Europe, then San Francisco for the third show on Saturday.

This was one Irish guy kinda like an Irish John Cooper-Clarke backed by Crass. Not for you hardcore junkies. I got a comment from a hardcore band in St. Petersburg, Russia. They play some interesting DIY hardcore. Not sure what they are singing about but the vocals are of the throat shredding variety and the music on the punky side of mid tempo hardcore rather than less desirable metal. I'm not trying to be picky as its a good demo effort and it may be my computer but the guitar could have been louder. Attended the Assault Your Senses 6 in SRQ the other night. Reasonable size crowd with some excellent local talent. The bands were a little shy and didn't put the light on so the video is really just audio.

Crows Foot are from Pinellas County and played some of the most enjoyable crust I have heard live for a long time. I like them because of the thoughtful lyrics and DIY nature. Super nice kids that I hope are "in it for life". I have their demo tape and a split ep with Deserter.

A search for the band turns up little. There is a garage band of the same name outta Ohio, but this was a band from the Tampa, FL area. Tampa was the capitol of death metal, but these young lads decided to play punk ala '82 anarcho era. They even do a cover of Tube Disasters. Recently Allen of the band contacted me, as I had previously posted the audio of the band when they supported The Casualties and asked if I still had the video. I cannot upload from VCR to the computer so I re-filmed it. I think it came out ok. It's on YouTube.com.

History of the video if you are interested. An ex-pat Brit used to put on shows at The State Theater (No Clubs Productions or something like that). There were some great shows, but I stopped going there when he f...d me over a damaged record I bought at his record shop. Anyhoo, when I arrived at this gig I locked my keys in the car and had to call for a locksmith. The cheap bastard that I am was also parked illegally in someone's vacant lot as I refused to pay for parking. While I waited for the locksmith I did not want to miss anything so I set up the video and left it recording. I had approached Endless Struggle about recording them and then sent a copy of the gig to them in Salt Lake City. So I never actually saw The Amputees play live, but do have the footage and now so do you.

Bored Youth was 4 suburban kids from West Bloomfield, Michigan- a suburb of Detroit. The singer was Rob Michaels who is now a lawyer in Chicago. There were two brothers- John and Robert Katz. Robert commited suicide in his first year of college at U of M. Robert and Rob were students there and graduated from HS in 1982. John graduated in '83. You can get a some background info from the Swindle Issue no. 12. I can't remember much about the drummer.

One of their best, if not the best show was with the misfits at the Freezer Theater on Cass in Detroit in the early eighties. It was a multiple bill with the meatmen, necros, the Mcdonalds, NA and maybe L7? Long time ago, hard to remember exactly. Freezer was a great place to see bands of that era.

Murder Suicide Pact

Last night I went to see Bob and the boys play. There is a new venue in Sarasota on 12th St. Just a rented house with the gig in the front room. The sound was pretty good. I saw local bands Injustice System and Thaw. INJ/SYS had a 3 piece with drums, vocals and guitar. Fast hardcore which I liked. I have a demo cassette, but who knows if I'll ever figure out how to connect the tape deck to the computer again. The four guys in Thaw played one song that lasted for 15 minutes. Very slow, loud sludgecore. It was a nice break from breakneck speed music. MSP now have Alonso (also of Control De Estado super band link http://www.myspace.com/controldeestado) now on bass. MSP were as tight as ever and Bob was full of energy doing high kicks, rolls and lifting members of the audience up head high and spinning them around. They have a new record coming out soon. With regards to recording I may have mentioned before that I have hundreds of tapes, but these take ages to transfer to digital even if I record without any separation of tracks. Anyway wifey says she saw a cool gadget that lets you record direct from the tape to the computer. I may investigate this which would mean you could be in for some treats or maybe just some shit me and a few other weirdos in cyberspace might enjoy.

Postage can be worked out depending on where you are and how many you want. I try to keep it at what it costs me.

Bakunin was born to a well off Russian family but gave up his military career to become a revolutionary and philosopher. The book is in like new condition except for the outer jacket. 400 pages in this 1973 edition.

Red Years/ Black Years is also in great condition, with the Institute For Human Issues covering Spanish Anarchism 1911-1937 in 300 pages. 1978.

Terrorists and Freedom Fighters is a short (92 pages) easy to read informative book. It gives the history of different countries and groups like E.T.A., Red Brigade, Baader-Meinhof etc. 1980.

A historical look at different philosophies, how they worked and might work is found in Utopia and Utopian Thought. Good stuff to make your think. 1973 300 pages, super condition.

A 1980 Cienfuegos Press (you know it must be good) release. 208 pages split into four sections. The Noble Sabateurs is not anarchistic, but is a very intersting 1966 book on The Resistance against Hitler's forces. We all know about the French Resistance, but what about the Norwegian, Dutch, Luxembourg etc?

From Whitechapel East London I have Issue 1 Summer 1983 of Commonweal. It looks like a fanzine, but was very well made. 93 pages packed with information. Titles include: Police Story, The Peace (non) Movement, Towards a Free Society, Shoot Him Immediately, An Anti-Statist Communist Manifesto and others.

Last but not least is issue #6 of Toxic Graffity. This DIY fanzine was widely distributed. Cheap and cheerful. Contains lots of anarchist poems. No date shown on it but probably from around 1981/2.

Not sure on the prices yet. Make me an offer for one or all.

As you may know Sound Idea is no more, but Hans set up the Black Coffee meeting room and concert still take place at the venue. MDC are touring again and this is their third time. Helen took loads of great photos and when I figured out how to get copies I'll post some. The gig opened with the last performance of local boys The Unemployed who played some good early '80s UK style punk. The other bands were all loud, fast hardcore (Eating Machine, Big Rats, Control De Estado, Murder Suicide Pact) and another Portland band touring with MDC called Embrace The Kill who played grind death metal. Super night.

This morning I decided to sort my CDs out as they were well out of order. I came across many which I will have to relisten to. This CD is a compilation of bands from Ann Arbor, MI, plus maybe some other places (Shitloads of Fuckall are Canadians). I had the "Pink " LP by Ground Zero which was released in 1985 on Reflex, but it was pretty lame and I sold it. These tracks must be from an earlier time as they are much more hardcore. Maybe they come from around the "Lung Cookies" comp in 1983. The comedy/documentary by Bill Maher is well worth hunting down. I wasn't sure if I wanted to see it as I thought it might be too preachy, but it was very funny and exposed the bigotry of religion. He basically just let people speak and make themselves look stupid. We had to go and see it in a small theatre as the regular cinemas just want mindless drivel. I hope it comes out on DVD.

I had some evil virus infect my computer and its cost me lots of dough to fix it. I haven't figured out how to upload files easily. I was saving music to the computer using Musicmatch then extracting the file so it could be read by the uploading file sharers like Divshare and Rapidshare. The new system has Nero and I can't figure out how to extract the files. This meant I had to upload the 60 tracks to Divshare 5 at a time. I'm pretty pissed off right now.

http://kalashnikov-collective.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html is a very interesting site despite being in Italian and me not being able to understand most of what is written. I can, however, enjoy seeing the many trips the band makes to different countries and the people they meet. The site also highlights good books out there and shares lots of MP3, including some older Italian bands.

The other night I went to another gig at Sound Idea. Lower Class Brats headlined and although I like their Street Punk music I was a little worried by what I had seen about their Clockwork Orange Image. There was no need for this cowardly custardness in me. They are a nice bunch of regular guys from Texas and put on a rocking fine show. I will upload the audio soon.

Opening for them were 99 Bottles from Sarasota. These kids have their hearts in the right place, but need to get tighter. I have no musical ability, but could see the geetar and bass were not gellin'.

The other out of town band were The Wednesday Night Heroes. I loved the wit of the singer Graeme and he put out an adrenaline fueled performance. You will see when you hear the set that they know their material. Stay tuned.

Two other sites I have just discovered and love everything on there are the Peruvian punk site http://chinohxcx.blogspot.com . This has some ultra rare tapes and videos. Another now on my favourite links is http://saapasnahkatorni.blogspot.com, which is a Finnish site that has so many excellent links I think my computer is going to explode from all the downloads. An international compilation, but without your usual English bands, rather bands from places like France, Japan, South America, Spain, Sweden, Argentina, Singapore, Canada, Columbia, Chile, Mexico, South Africa, New Zealand, Czech, Poland, Italy, Brazil, Greece, Germany! It covers a long time period from 1981 -1996 with single tracks off the bands 7"s. Don't be put off if you're thinking this is skinhead "oi" (I like all oi as long as it not fascist) as the music is quite varied punk in the "'82" vein ( like the super cover "Ultimos Rockers" by AntiSociales. I don't know how hard the vinyl is to get hold of, but you can get this on CD now. Taang has the record for $22, but I saw a CD for sale for 5 Euros at tone of the Oi sites. Buy your own and get a better recording than I have given you. There is also a Volume 2, but I don't have that. Another band that I overlooked for a long time. I can't remember if I avoided them because I mistakenly confused them with Gen X. I didn't like Gen X and never liked Billy Idol. However, I think I linked them with Anti Pasti. In solidarity with The Epileptics who had a beef with Anti Pasti stealing their song, I avoided Anti Pasti and Chron Gen toured with Anti Pasti. Anyway see the way my mind worked. Who gives a fuck anyway. Lots of the punks were jerks just like most of the human race. Garuda

Paul of "1984" has the AKA of Garuda. This got me thinking about what this meant. Garuda was/is a Hindu deity, who seems pretty cool for fighting against the gods. Anyhow, there was also a Texas band called "Garuda". I think they were connected to Race Against Time or Reason of Insanity. If I had seen this 2002 release in a shop I probably wouldn't have bought it as the cover is pretty uninspiring and the track titles look like some emo band's or at best some Husker Du covers. Luckily I saw the band play live and bought this from them. I think you will like it.

As I mentioned before 1984 from Tallahassee played yesterday in Brandon. The set was a little stop and start, but that is to be expected when you play music at the speed they do. Paul aka "Garuda" does vocals and drums. It looked like he was faffing around adjusting his drum set after each song, but I'm sure most of it was just to get a pause to catch his breath. They reminded me of MDC, with great political lyrics, good musicianship and a lot of heart put into the performance. I posted their CD yesterday which you can download free from their Myspace. I got a copy from them and donated some greenbacks to their get home fuel. While at the Sound Idea Distribution shop I bought some vinyl. Bob has thousands of titles with a great selection of the reissues out there. I came away with the "F" Four from 84 EP which Bob put out on Burrito Records. Bob refuses to put out a shoddy reissue and there are some excellent pictures form the early days, notes from the original members and a decent interview with Flash.

Contrast this with a 7" comp "Amargado de La Vida". This has the four bands "Sin Orden", "Sin Dios", Fronterrorizmo" and " Seres Humanos". Apart from Spanish lyrics the record is also sin any further info and sin any photos. Come on guys at least give some contact info for the bands. I think they are US bands who sing in Spanish. Fast and loud music.

Another comp I bought was "Paere Punk". A reissue of the 1979 Danish compilation. This is a must buy despite the cheap packaging, with lack of effort to give any extra info on the bands or on Danish punk history. Bands are:

Another 1995 recording comes from this Slovakian band. I have heard a few Czech bands and the majority seem to be Oi bands, Spravny Smer come from over the border in Slovakia. I have added the Lo Res Viscera link. What's happened the Crustix link doesn't work? Also have found the way too good site http://genocide-japan.blogspot.com/ with lots of stuff to beat the ebay high pricers, but looks like this is closing down. Who knows the new site?

I may even get round today to uploading some more music. I've been busy with my cars and have sold a couple so that I can finance a trip back to England, Germany and Spain next year. When I was a kid we used to travel all around the world. As a teenager I didn't want to go as that meant missing listening to John Peel. Anyway I'm rambling on here with nothing for you to hear. I grabbed a handful of records from the "S" section. This is what I have planned:

I posted some comps of girl fronted punk bands. Over at http://tofugrinder.tumblr.com/ there is a download to be had with some different bands. The site says there are 6 others, but as of yet I cannot access the others.

Also http://loresviscera.blogspot.com/ has the Rudimentary Peni - Catostrophe bootleg live CD. Sounds like some of the bootlegs I did are on there. Maybe I should get my stuff digitally remastered and put out a record to make lots of money, or maybe I could donate the money to soemthing useful like PETA? I did contact Southern Records once offereing them the bootlegs I did, but they never replied.

Mud Honey - Superfuzzbigmuff

Kurt Cobain, Kim Salmon yes you know their names. What about Mark Arm? He played in the super Mr. Epp and the Calculations, great Green River and the greater Mud Honey. This is grunge! My Mud Honey records are on Glitterhouse which was the Euro branch of Sub Pop. This was done in 1988 and I think has a different track listing with the first track being the ever so excellent "Touch Me I'm Sick". Live Skull - Snuffer

Punk in the late '80s had largely changed to thrash or more experimental noise like Sonic Youth. Live Skull were from NYC and were in this latter camp. This type of music was very important for its influence on the grunge bands that would bring punk back into popularity (if that was a good thing). This is from 1988 on Caroline and is more like a mini LP. I picked it up a few years back at a record swap for 25c. Godstomper/Entrails Massacre

Today's delights are varied with some modern noise and some older sex music.

Godstomper from California are a very interesting band in that they manage to put out a complete sounding songs using just bass and drums. Ultra fast and loud.

On the other side of the record is Entrails Massacre from Germany who have a more traditional set up of instruments. I was worried by their name that they would be just another gore band, band they are much better than that. The Birthday Party formed out of the ashes of the Australian band The Boys Next Door. Like many other Aussies they moved to London in the early '80s and were pretty successful and highly influential. I saw them play with Bauhaus and Subway Sect around 1983. They were fronted by wild man Nick Cave, but what sticks in my mind most was the bassist Tracy Pew, wearing a cowboy hat and moustache. He gyrated around like he was f...ing his bass. My brother Andrew also went to the gig, which was the only one he ever went to. I tried to bootleg it, but the bouncers took my tape player and also confiscated the laces of my steel toe capped boots. This is there first single recorded whilst still in Australia, but interestingly they had already signed to 4AD Records.
