No Retreat/ No Surrender

Following the recommendation of Space Astonomy why not head on over to http://witchpolice.blogspot.com/2010/01/time-travel-no-retreatno-surrender.html for a rare comp from Winnipeg or download it here. http://www.archive.org/download/VariousArtists-NoRetreatnoSurrender/VariousArtists-NoRetreatnoSurrender_vbr_mp3.zip Nothing too amazing here, but you may find some tracks you like as it's pretty varied and DIY. A little too emo, pop punk and ska for my liking although Grandpa's Army do a nice two tone sound ala The Specials. The two bands that stood out for me were Naked Midgets and Pratle. Runners up were 7-Teen, Just For Kicks , My Checkered Past.

Bored Youth was 4 suburban kids from West Bloomfield, Michigan- a suburb of Detroit. The singer was Rob Michaels who is now a lawyer in Chicago. There were two brothers- John and Robert Katz. Robert commited suicide in his first year of college at U of M. Robert and Rob were students there and graduated from HS in 1982. John graduated in '83. You can get a some background info from the Swindle Issue no. 12. I can't remember much about the drummer.

drummer was (is) Fred Ingam. Just spoke to him moments ago and he's amazed at the amount of bored youth stuff on the internet. One of their best, if not the best show was with the misfits at the Freezer Theater on Cass in Detroit in the early eighties. It was a multiple bill with the meatmen, necros, the Mcdonalds, NA and maybe L7? Long time ago, hard to remember exactly. Freezer was a great place to see bands of that era.

Elti-Fits comments update

Looks like the band memebrs had lost touch and are hopefully now reunited.

Hi - I was a member of Elti-Fits (guitarist) - although we formed and recorded in Manchester the bassist and I were from London, the singer was from Loughborough. The drummer was a Mancunian though. we didn't have a song called "Tony Wilson F***r" but the sentiment was expressed in less robust language in the song "Their Grip" which contains the lyric "Tony Wilson sits street sucking"."

Waxwork Dummies update

"Mould ere (Waxwork Dummies singer),How random is this?. I lost my copy of this recording years ago, so big cheers Pogel. Sid did sit in and play drums alongside Stuart once or twice for "Concrete Indian" when he was with Flux of Pink Indians, who we gigged with a few times.I did go on and play in other bands equally as obscure (Dormant Sons and The Skraelings). Cheered up my day."

Someone also put a post on about a Facebook page about the Chelmsford scene, but I couldn't find any link.

X-Cretas update

I guess there may be a way for Blogger to tell you automatically when comments are posted. Otherwise it's hard to tell if someonw puts a comment on well after a psot is made. In case anyone is interested here are some good comments from band members of psots on their bands.

"Hi Pogel, this is Trev the vocalist of the X-Cretas. Just thought i'd say cheers for posting our demos as i haven't actually got a copy myself :-) Was racking my brains trying to think where the gig was that you refer to and, although a lot of that time is a bit of a blur to me now, i'm pretty sure we never played the Fulham Greyhound so i reckon it was probably the Pied Bull in Islington. In case you're in the slightest bit interested, here's a bit of an update on what happened to the X-Cretas and Anthrax. Loz, who you mention, went on to join Anti Sect, while i joined Bug Central (with Roger and Ben Blasphemy from Gravesend) and i'm now in Active Slaughter. Anthrax have just released a comp of all their stuff.Anyway, cheers again."

No Fraud

As previously posted No Fraud are on tour and playing in Sarasota on Saturday February 27th. They play US style hardcore punk and have been doing so for 25 years. Try and catch them if they come near you. Here's some video footage of them in Tampa back in 1986. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTiIJrY48iQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VazrZTDpf_w&feature=related

Maybe I'll video them on Saturday and get a modern update.

2/27/10 What a fantastic show! The guys really rocked. I have a super video, but now have to buy some different cables to connect with the computer.

Einsturzende Neubauten

I visited a friend who was a skater in Buffalo N.Y. back in the day. He likes industrial music so our music paths cross. I like the wierder, experimental electronic music. This CD is worth listening too, but is not as far out as some of their other material. I'll dig out some more punky toons soon. http://www.divshare.com/playlist/677144-7e3 Password " RPM"

John Foxx

John Foxx was the first vocalist for Ultravox and while they went off to be pop stars John Foxx made some original experimental, electronic music of his own, on his own and on his own label. Older punks may remember this fondly, those that want rowdy thrash may not like it.

I have also heard the 1995 "Shifting City", but this is more in industrial dance vein and I don't really care for it. In between and even more recently he has done numerous recordings, but I like the early stuff. I also have the first two singles. Foxx has a website http://www.metamatic.com/

Murder Suicide Pact

Last night I went to see Bob and the boys play. There is a new venue in Sarasota on 12th St. Just a rented house with the gig in the front room. The sound was pretty good. I saw local bands Injustice System and Thaw. INJ/SYS had a 3 piece with drums, vocals and guitar. Fast hardcore which I liked. I have a demo cassette, but who knows if I'll ever figure out how to connect the tape deck to the computer again. The four guys in Thaw played one song that lasted for 15 minutes. Very slow, loud sludgecore. It was a nice break from breakneck speed music. MSP now have Alonso (also of Control De Estado super band link http://www.myspace.com/controldeestado) now on bass. MSP were as tight as ever and Bob was full of energy doing high kicks, rolls and lifting members of the audience up head high and spinning them around. They have a new record coming out soon. Here's their website http://www.myspace.com/mspfl Bob gave me a demo of the new stuff. This is only the rough version and not the finished record quality. http://www.divshare.com/playlist/677125-08b Password "RPM".

Two weeks from now No Fraud are playing at the same venue in SRQ.

ratina-ja-pauke

The excellent http://saapasnahkatorni.blogspot.com/ has come up with a comp that will blow your mind away. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=45Q4FIMR I have heard other comps that profess to be proto punk from the '60s, but this is the real deal with wacked out psychos kickin' out the jams. Well done indeed.

Terveet Kadet

TK are back together with three original members and have a new record out. So far I have heard one track which is classic. It's a 10" available from http://www.punkinfinland.net/
