John Foxx was the first vocalist for Ultravox and while they went off to be pop stars John Foxx made some original experimental, electronic music of his own, on his own and on his own label. I have also heard the 1995 "Shifting City", but this is more in industrial dance vein and I don't really care for it. In between and even more recently he has done numerous recordings, but I like the early stuff. I also have the first two singles. Foxx has a website http://www.metamatic.com/

What I remember is, this is pretty much what Punks were rebelling against. You can't do this kind of music without having a bunch of equipment and technical expertise. Having been a big Prog/Synth fan at the time Punk music took over (77), I was overjoyed to see this kind of music come out of the 80s. Cathedral Oceans I & II are pretty good also.
No I don't think Punk rebelled agaisnt experimental music. This was not mainstream at all.
Also we had bands that had no equipment and no expertise. When my friends in Nitzer Ebb started off all they had was a Wasp synth and for percussion they beat the hell out of an old metal bin.
Yeah really.... there were meathead punks who thought they were rebelling against this sort of thing.... the ones in the Exploited & GBH tshirts where I grew up if you want to continue with the stupid generalisations. Then there were the ones (true punks not just the guys in it because they wanted a 'non-comformist' uniform) who were into anything good including stuff like this.... Scars, PiL (the 1st lp of course but metal box/second edition & flowers of romance were also amazingly ground breaking albums), psychedelic furs, the fall even the first couple of cure lps, etc etc - not just the usual punk stuff and motorhead/tank.
